Fairy in the Moon
In ancient Chinese culture it was believed that a fairy lived in the moon.  Her presence was worshiped annually during August of the Lunar New Year.  Today, we still celebrate the tradition, gazing up at the beauty of the glowing full moon, sending prayers her way, then celebrating with "Moon Cake"...it's quite tasty!
Tranquility
I stumbled upon the inspiration for this image at an outdoor cafe during one of those long, lazy days of summer.  The contrast of vibrant colors and calmness caught my eye immediately, so much so, that I had to cancel my afternoon plans and instead spend the time capturing the essence of this painting.

Spring is near!
Seeing the sun poke through the clouds and buds showing on the trees, I was reminded that spring is just around the corner and scenes like these will be plentiful...looks like I'd better start carrying my brushes with me!

Demo at Bellevue New Years event
Brushes were flying all afternoon...we created so many calligraphy and painting samples that we lost count.   There were lots of people in attendance and I hope you were there to experience all the fun.  If you missed this one, check back to find out where we'll be painting next!

Here is another of my favorite paintings.  I began this work after a day of quietly sitting and watching.  I love the sense of freedom I felt as I saw the the Cranes soaring overhead.  Their flight seemed so effortless, and while I know I can never fully capture their graceful motion, I hope a bit of their spirit comes through in the painting.
